This is the long version of Buddy Tours' adventure trek, for people who want to get properly away from the city rather than just glimpse the hills. Buddy Tours has been running treks since 1993 with licensed trekking guides, and the three day program spreads the walking, the elephants and the river over three days and two nights.

You are picked up from your hotel or guesthouse between 08:30 and 09:30 and stop at a local market on the way out. At the elephant camp you spend around two hours feeding and bathing the elephants, including a mud bath with them, then hike about two hours to your first overnight stop near a hill tribe village. The second day is the big walking day, around five hours through the forest to a jungle camp for the second night. On the third day you hike a final hour, spend an hour on a bamboo raft, swim at a waterfall and visit a Karen village before the drive back, arriving in Chiang Mai at about 17:00.

Seven meals with tea and coffee are included, along with a guide and porters, a small sleeping bag and a backpack, accident insurance and storage for the luggage you leave in town. Transport is by pickup truck. Both nights are in simple camp conditions, so pack a flashlight, and bring warm clothes between November and February. A copy of your passport identification page is needed for the insurance.

Bookings open up to 180 days ahead; the latest date you can book is Wed 21 Apr 2027.
