A half day that pairs the two sides of the Mae Taeng river. First you paddle a 4 km whitewater section in an inflatable raft with a guide, then you swap to a bamboo raft for a slow 4 km drift through the calmer part of the valley. It suits families and mixed groups where not everyone wants a full adrenaline day, because the whitewater section is short and the bamboo raft is about as relaxed as a river gets.

After hotel pickup you drive about an hour north to the camp at Kaeng Kued. The rafting guides kit you out with a life jacket and helmet and explain the paddle commands before you launch. The 4 km run takes around an hour and passes a handful of rapids with quieter water in between; in the cool season it is a lively float, in the rainy months it is a real ride. Back at the camp you change to the bamboo raft, a long platform of lashed poles poled along by a boatman while you sit and watch the forest slide past. Lunch is served at the camp and you return to Chiang Mai in the afternoon.

Drinking water, insurance and an English-speaking guide are included. Expect to be wet on both rafts, so bring a change of clothes.

Bookings open up to 180 days ahead; the latest date you can book is Wed 21 Apr 2027.
