This is the day the family camp at Kaeng Kued is known for: three activities in one valley, about an hour north of Chiang Mai, with no extra driving between them. It suits families with older children, groups who cannot agree on one activity, and anyone who wants elephants and adventure in a single day out.

Pickup from your hotel is around 08:30. At the camp you start with the elephants. The family took in former working elephants and keeps them on their own hillside; you feed them and then help scrub and bathe them in the river. There is no riding. After the elephants you kit up for the ATVs, which are automatic with a thumb throttle, and follow your guide for an hour along forest and riverside trails, with a short practice loop first. Lunch is at the camp. In the afternoon the rafting guides fit you with a life jacket and helmet, run through the paddle commands and drive you upstream to the launch. The 4 km run back takes around an hour through a series of rapids, gentle in the cool season and lively in the rains. You are back at your hotel around 16:45.

Drinking water, insurance and an English-speaking guide are included. You will be wet and muddy more than once, so bring a full change of clothes and shoes that can go in the water.

Bookings open up to 180 days ahead; the latest date you can book is Wed 21 Apr 2027.
