A full day for people who want the river to be the main event. You get an hour on the ATVs and then the longer 8 km rafting run on the Mae Taeng, the stretch that includes the most rapids the valley has to offer. It suits confident swimmers and active travellers; in the rainy months it is a proper whitewater day rather than a family float.

After hotel pickup you drive about an hour north to the family-run camp at Kaeng Kued. The ATVs come first: they are automatic with a thumb throttle, so a briefing and a practice loop are all you need before you follow your guide for an hour along forest and riverside trails. Lunch is served at the camp. The rafting guides then fit you with a life jacket and helmet, go through the paddle commands and what to do if you fall in, and drive you upstream to the launch. The 8 km run back takes roughly one and a half to two hours through a long series of rapids with calmer water in between, past forested banks and rocky bends. You return to Chiang Mai in the late afternoon.

Drinking water, insurance and an English-speaking guide are included. You will be wet and muddy, so bring a full change of clothes and shoes that can go in the water.

Bookings open up to 180 days ahead; the latest date you can book is Wed 21 Apr 2027.
